Suryakumar Yadav continued his tremendous form as the opposition, the conditions or the bowling attacks nothing seem to bother him at the moment. After playing a match-winning 69 off 36 against Australia in the series decider a few days ago, Surya was in his elements yet again on Wednesday, this time against South Africa on a surface that almost behaved like a landmine for the batters, but it just doesn't matter for him, with the form he is in.
Surya came in to bat when India had lost Virat Kohli, their second wicket. Even though India were chasing just 107, 17/2 is a tricky situation, especially on a surface which was doing all sorts of stuff. Second ball he tonks Anrich Nortje for a six, and repeats on the next ball as well. Surya is just built differently. He made KL Rahul look pedestrian at the other end, who was doing the dirty work of grinding it out and eventually made a well-compiled fifty.Even though he scored 50* off 33, Surya required just 8 runs on Wednesday to break the national record. Surya overtook Shikhar Dhawan to now have the most runs for an Indian batter in T20Is in a calendar year. With 732 runs in this year, Surya is now also the batter with the fourth most runs in T20Is in a calendar year. With a couple of matches in this series left and a T20 World Cup to come, Surya can only rise further in the overall list and extend in the list of the Indian players.
